Prince2 qualification

Work put me through a Prince2 Foundation training course during December, booked through Focus Training and delivered by Datrix Training. Prince2 is pretty much the standard for Project Management in the UK, coming from the government’s experiences in areas such as the NHS. Having done the course, it all seems like blatant common sense, but it’s surprising how powerful it can be.

Focus were very helpful, and booking the course was easy. The training was held at Colwick Racecourse, which to be honest was not a great experience. It was very cold in the building, and the food was poor. However, the training itself was fantastic. I immediately hated the trainer, but within a couple of hours he had won me over. He was using clever tricks to make us feel comfortable, and the crap jokes soon stopped 😛

It was a three day course, and covered a lot of material. My colleague and I had sent off for the official manual and acquired some exam papers off eBay well before the course. I would advise anyone to do the same, as getting to grips with the Prince2 method is not easy. The head start we had was invaluable.

The Datrix course and materials were well tailored to the syllabus, and closely linked to the exam content. The course was not about what we thought about project managing, it was about passing the multiple choice exam that we all sat at the end of the third day. Everyone on the course passed!

Overall, I would certainly recommend Focus and Datrix. I was not so impressed with Colwick Racecourse as a venue for the training, but at the end of the day that was only a minor consideration compared to the quality of the training. I was so happy with the course, that I will be signing up for the Practitioner level course with Datrix shortly.
