“Serve you?” – No thanks.
I saw a website the other day where they were falling over themselves to “serve” you, the potential customer. Now I see something wrong there. In business, I work with people. I don’t serve them. Waiters serve a meal. Servants serve people. I work with clients and other businesses. By setting myself up to “serve” people, I would be asking for trouble.
Why? Because some people are egotistical and unrealistic. They expect the moon on a stick, and they want it yesterday. Well, egotistical and unrealistic people, I won’t work with you, never mind “serve” you. It is not necessary for me to deal with every person that asks for my services. While I may generate income from them, the time consumed and the stress of dealing with them is not worth it. When I say not worth it, I mean not profitable. Profit is the goal of my business, not having a large number of whining clients that take up all my time. Business is a two way relationship for me. I heard someone say that you should cull the bottom 10% of your clients every year while increasing the number of pleasant clients, and that makes perfect sense to me 🙂
