Ubuntu on Virtual PC 2007. Or not.
I am pretty keen on open source software, especially Ubuntu. I have it on a spare machine, but this does not have wireless so it means runnin a cable downstairs every time I want to use it on the net. A pain. So, I installed Microsoft Virtual PC 2007 and downloaded the Ubuntu 6.06 ISO. With the help of the following website, I got it running pretty quick. VPC is painfully slow when running the live ISO image before it installs to the virtual hard disk on my PC, and crashes randomly. Sometimes it just freezes, sometimes you can’t type anything in. Flaky.
Getting Ubuntu working on Virtual PC
After banging my head against this for a couple of days, I downloaded the free VMWare Player with an “Ubuntu Ultimate” ISO that already had loads of extra stuff installed. It ran perfectly, first time. Job done 😛
