Navidrome & Feishin - self hosted Apple Music/Spotify alternative

Despite spending countless hours setting up Music Assistant on Home Assistant, I realised I hated it. It's slow and clunky and I find the Material Design UI ugly.

After trying various systems I have settled on Feishin as a way to access a local Navidrome server.

Navidrome

I've got a huge collection of DRM free music built up over the years, with mp3 and FLAC files from various sources including Bandcamp.

My homelab server is an ancient Mac Mini with Docker, so I installed Navidrome to that with the music stored on an external SSD.

Super easy to set up and has been working flawlessly

Feishin

To access this library on my Linux daily machine, I installed Feishin. It's modern, pleasant to look at and works great. It shows recent adds, favourite etc. and sends to Airplay speakers fine.

Phone apps

As Navidrome is open source, there are various phone apps available that show the library and allow sending to Airplay speakers.

Summary

Navidrome and Feishin and a phone app give me a free, locally hosted music streaming setup. It was all easy to set up and has worked great. Sorry Music Assistant, it's you, not me.
