# Now..

Inspired by [https://nownownow.com/about](https://nownownow.com/), here's what I'm up to at the moment (Oct 26)

![narrowboat thin lizzy on the sunny canal near derby](https://www.nick-hayward.co.uk/user/pages/02.now/narrowboat-thin-lizzy-near-derby.png)

## Living

- Living aboard my narrowboat [Thin Lizzy](https://www.nick-hayward.co.uk/category/narrowboat/) in a marina. Community is pretty good here and I couldn't live without the fibre optic internet!
- Long term plans are to move to Portugal and set up an off-grid retreat/digital nomad/yoga farm inspired by Project Kamp.

## Reading

- *What's your dream* by Simon Squibb
- *The city & the city* by China Miéville (via Bookshop.org)

## Watching

*Mobland*, animal documentary *Dynasties*, too much YouTube

## Cycling

Currently riding a £100 single speed that I love to bits and a second-hand Specialised road bike. Also an old Scott road bike that someone left by the marina skip!

I get most of my bikes from Recycle4Rotary, local charity that recycle donated bikes to raise funds for the Rotary club.

## Work

Under my sustainable web design & development brand [Intention](https://byintention.co/), I'm working on healthcare websites via an agency, regularly updating around 50 WordPress installs for clients, and various small business design & build projects.

I signed up for [Bluesky](https://bsky.app/) and met lots of other sustainable web designers/developers which is fantastic. I need to market Intention better and work with more sustainable clients.

I'm starting to think WordPress is losing its way and plagued by security issues and am looking for cleaner, faster content management systems to run my own sites and certain client sites. Currently migrating my own sites over to the fantastic [GravCMS](https://getgrav.org/) v2 - very fast, lovely to work with and way less likely to get hacked than WordPress.

Also investigating the next step in my counselling training as I think AI is finally eating the web design market in 2026.

## Gaming

![over the hill screenshot showing 4x4 driving in grass and trees](https://www.nick-hayward.co.uk/user/pages/02.now/over%20the%20hill%2001-p-800.jpg)

Absolutely loving *Over The Hill* 4x4 simulator at the moment, and enjoyed the *ARC Raiders* PvE only playtest

## Linux

Daily driving Ubuntu 24/GNOME for work and gaming - it's so close to being there but a few points of friction annoy me on a daily basis.

Also have a ten year old Macbook Air running [ZorinOS](https://zorin.com/os/), which is bloody lovely.
